The Fair Work Commission (FWC) has announced a 4.6% or $40.00 per week increase to the Modern Award minimum wage rates from 1 July 2022.

To clarify, minimum wage rates currently above $869.60 per week will increase by 4.6% and minimum wage rates below $869.60 per week will increase by $40.00 per week for full-time employees.

The FWC has explained that a higher increase was awarded than last year (2.5%) because the cost of living was rising and ‘the low-paid are particularly vulnerable in the context of rising inflation’. FWC President Ian Ross has stated ‘We have concluded that the changes in the economic context weigh in favour of an increase in the national minimum wage and in Modern Award minimum wages’.

The impact for employees not covered by a Modern Award or Enterprise Agreement will be a national minimum wage increase by 5.2% to $812.60 per week (or $21.38 per hour) from 1 July 2022. This represents an increase of $40.00 per week to the weekly full-time rate.

The Fair Work Ombudsman (FWO) will now prepare their Pay Tables based on the percentage increase. The Modern Award minimum wage increase will be applicable from the first pay period on or after 1 July 2022.

Jobs Australia will prepare Pay Tables for Members within one or two days of the FWO Pay Tables announcement. We will notify all Members to advise when our Pay Tables are available on our website for Members to download.
