jobactive is the latest iteration of the Australian Government's outsourced public employment service, replacing the Job Services Australia model. The new model commenced on 1 July 2015, with a range of private (for-profit) and charitable or non-profit agencies delivering the required services under contracts with the Australian Government Department of Employment.
The jobactive contracts are significantly different to previous Job Services Australia (JSA) contracts. For job seekers, the arrangements reduce the emphasis on training and increase the focus on maintaining work readiness through Work for the Dole. The model also puts employers squarely at the centre - providers are specifically required to engage employers more proactively.
Throughout the history of outsourced employment services, Jobs Australia has played a major role in advocating for arrangements that would see more disadvantaged Australians in work. We also provide support for our members who deliver employment services, such as advice on tenders, business advice and assistance, and engaging in consultation with the Department of Employment about changes to the program that affect our members' operations.
News items and resources relating to both our policy advocacy and our support services for members can be found on this page.
