Chief Executive Officer

Debra is an experienced CEO who has worked in both the public and not for profit sectors across a diverse range of businesses, including member-based organisations, working with people to lobby and advocate to achieve results. Debra has a reputation as a transformational leader who is invested in working with people to encourage them to be the best version of themselves. Recognised for her passion, energy and commitment to support individuals which stems from a career grounded as a health professional transitioning through clinical, education, management and leadership roles.

Deb provides leadership to Jobs Australia and works closely with the entire team who are committed to providing ongoing support, evidence-based advice and excellent service to our members.

Nicole Steers

Chief Operating Officer

Nicole joined the Executive Team in early 2019 bringing years of experience in the Health and Community Services sector to Jobs Australia. As the Chief Operating Officer Nicole is committed to ensuring the Jobs Australia team always has Members at the centre of everything we do. Nicole is proud to be leading a team that is informed, knowledgeable, passionate and committed to providing an exceptional service to the membership.  

Nicole will ensure the business continues to grow, with the suite of services on offer constantly expanding and a nimble and responsive approach provided to the ever changing environment of our Members. Nicole hopes to meet as many Members as possible via visits, phone catch ups or at one of our upcoming events.

Ernst Ferreira

Corporate Services Officer

Ernst is an internationally experienced senior finance and corporate services leader with diverse experience across commercial, public and Not for Profit sectors.

Ernst has a Bachelors in Commerce, Diploma in “Investment Analysis & Portfolio Management and Certificate IV in Property Services (Real Estate) CPP40307

Ernst has completed more than 3 years of external audit internship with PWC and more than 11 years of experience in external and internal audits. Working in senior executive roles for more than 21 years, mostly as CFO orchestrated large system implementations, organisation turnarounds and mergers. Assisted various organisation with the successful implementation of Internal Audit, Risk Management, Process reengineering and Good Governance. Ernst has a strong focus on continuous improvement, achieving success through applying his breadth of technical expertise, building inspired teams and working collaboratively at all levels in an organisation. Ernst is passionate about equality and employment creation and assisted in large successful job creation schemes in South Africa that received State Presidential recommendation.  Ernst is a Members of the Institute of Public Accountant (IPA Australia) and is currently Corporate Services Officer with Jobs Australia managing finance, corporate services, risk management and the blanket cover insurance program.

Policy and Advocacy

Richard Butler

Policy Analyst

Richard joined the Jobs Australia team in 2020. Richard previously led the Marra Worra Worra Aboriginal Corporations CDP Program and in 2 years progressed the program to be one of the national benchmarks in best practice and overall CDP contract performance. He is a former Chief Executive Officer of Karrayili Adult Education Centre, and has considerable RTO management experience. 

Whilst living in Victoria Richard contributed to the Social Services Sector as a board director and Chair.  He served as Chair of the Victorian Chair’s Network, Local Learning and Employment Networks, and as Chair of the Frankston and Mornington Peninsula Local Learning and Employment Networks. (Llen). He is a former Director of South East Development and a Member of Australian institute of Company Directors. Richard is a Member of the St James Centre for the Study of Ethics.

Richard has considerable senior stakeholder experience at Federal Minister, State and local Government levels and is a former President of the Frankston Chamber of Commerce. Following a near 3 decade career as a senior corporate executive Richard brings considerable depth of experience in business sectors including Small to Medium Enterprise, Corporate and Consumer and the economic impacts affecting employability and employees.

He has worked in the Pilbara, The Kimberley and the Torres Strait and has extensive understanding of the challenges facing people living in remote and very remote regions of Australia and the differences across State and Federal Funding.

Richard has a Bachelor of Arts, a Diploma of Leadership and Management, a Diploma of Human Resources Management, Certificate 4 Employment Services and Career Development.

Emma Hall

Membership & Marketing Team Leader

Emma joined the Membership and Marketing Team in early 2019 and has been instrumental in adapting and changing the delivery of Membership and Marketing at Jobs Australia. Emma has a passion for creating member-centric events and communications and is instrumental when it comes to the planning and implementation of these areas. Heading up the Membership and Marketing Team, Emma takes great pride in working closely with the team to ensure Jobs Australia Members are well-informed and heard. As a conduit between Jobs Australia and Members, you’ll no doubt meet Emma at one of our many events or training programs, or for a more personalised visit when doing Member visits.

Brit Steers

Membership, Marketing & Events Officer

In August 2019 Brit joined the Membership and Marketing team at Jobs Australia. Brit has a background in marketing and has worked in the not for profit space for some years. Since commencing with Jobs Australia, Brit has worked on the CDP forum, the mental health forum, membership engagement, the JA Conference and now moving into the virtual event space.

Margaret Balsillie

Workplace Relations Team Leader

Margaret joined Jobs Australia as a Human Resources Consultant within the Workplace Relations team in 2011.

Margaret is a HR/IR  professional that thrives on helping others to be the best they can, with a passion for people and leadership development her role at Jobs Australia has provided the perfect setting for her to create genuine connections with Jobs Australia members through her ability to authentically listen, learn, lead and laugh.

Currently leading a team of passionate Industrial Relations specialists who provide first-class support to Jobs Australia members is an absolute privilege, and provides the space for the team to bring new ideas together, to influence wonderful outcomes for our members.

Some of the other notches on Margaret’s profession belt are Mentoring, Mediation, Project Management, Workplace investigations and her first love –training.

Margaret’s extensive Human Resources and Industrial Relations experience was gained through her more than 20 years’ experience within the Victorian Technical and Further Educations(TAFE) environment prior to joining Jobs Australia.

David Prior

Industrial Relations Specialist

I am a well respected and committed IR/HR practitioner with 23 years of experience at a senior level encompassing industrial relations, people management, human resources and organisational change. 
 
My experience includes extensive service delivery both in-house and in private practice, to collaborate with HR, leaders and management in highly unionised environments in not for profit, private and public sector enterprises.
 
Admitted to legal practice in 2008 I specialise in employment law and industrial relations. My qualifications include Master of Laws, Juris Doctor and Master of Public Administration degrees. 
 
I am passionate about industrial relations including problem-solving and pragmatic about finding workable solutions and engaging with internal and external stakeholders to achieve goals and maintain and continuously improve service delivery.
 
My experience includes industrial advocacy as a trade union official in Queensland in national transport, aviation and rail before moving to private practice across such industries as health and education in state and local government and federal statutory authorities. 
 
I welcome the opportunity to apply my knowledge and skills to assist Members of Jobs Australia.

Patricia Reardon

Board Secretariat

Trish joined Jobs Australia in late 2018 in a part time capacity to support the Board of Directors’ secretariat function. Working closely with the members’ elected state representatives on the Board and the executive leadership team at Jobs Australia, Trish’s role is integral in maintaining the Board’s governance and compliance requirements. Whilst Trish’s work is very much in the background, she applies the Jobs Australia values of Integrity, Proactivity, Respect, Leadership and Progress to all the work she does in support of the Board of Directors and the Jobs Australia membership.

Sofie Barlas

Finance Officer

Sofie Barlas commenced working at Jobs Australia over 15 years ago. During this time, she has proudly met and worked with many wonderful and interesting people in our sector.

As the Finance Officer at Jobs Australia, Sofie plays an integral role in our financial and accounting activities, including payroll processing. Sofie provides support to the Corporate Services Officer to maintain sound financial reporting and business solutions. At Jobs Australia Sofie has had the opportunity and been instrumental in adapting several accounting packages and with her expertise, has helped to implement accounting processes and procedures for operational improvements.

Prior to her employment at Jobs Australia, Sofie held various accounting roles across a range of industries including the retail, wholesale building products and building facilities management industries.
