Jobs Australia has partnered with Operation Angel to support their efforts during the Australian Bushfires.

Who are Operation Angel?

Operation Angel is a not for profit, secular, humanitarian organisation founded in 1997 by Jacqueline Pascarl to assist the women and children of the war-torn Balkan states.

Reinvigorated during the 2009 Victorian Bushfire Crisis, it has since evolved into a rapid response, community and volunteer support organisation, priding itself on being lateral thinking and responsive - filling niches that are often overlooked in the time of emergency and disaster.

Their mission is to work innovatively and imaginatively to bring practical relief and self-sustaining assistance to individuals and families affected by natural disaster or large-scale human tragedy in Australia & the region.

Operation Angel focusses on specific areas like hygiene packs & pride themselves on adaptability.

Jobs Australia's Proposal

Many Jobs Australia Members in NSW, Vic, Qld and Tas have been impacted by the fires. Other Members have not, but are keen to provide support to their colleagues. Jobs Australia will be using our offices in South Melbourne to be a collection agency for Operation Angel.

Jobs Australia is reaching out to all Members, staff and families, asking for donations to fulfil the needs of Operation Angel packs:

  • Basic Kit
  • Female Kit
  • Firefighter Kit

Jobs Australia will coordinate packing of the kits according to Operation Angel guidelines. PLEASE ENSURE ALL DONATED PRODUCTS ARE NEW AND UNUSED.

Jobs Australia will deliver all the goods to Operation Angel and we can keep this going for as long as assistance is required and Members can continue to contribute.

How You Can Help

Jobs Australia staff will be volunteering after hours to collate these designated kits and have been asked in addition to the listed items to also collect Hydrolite sachets (not liquid please) and gift cards (Coles, Woolworths and Visa). So please, if you can provide any of these items they will be gratefully received. Gift cards can be any amount and will only be used to support Operation Angel to purchase the items for the kits.

Please only send what has been requested.

The requirements for the kits are as follows and must not be deviated from:

Basic Kit

  1. Small shampoo
  2. Toothbrush & toothpaste
  3. Small soap or body wash
  4. Small deodorant
  5. Comb

Female Kit

  1. Small shampoo
  2. Toothbrush & toothpaste
  3. Small soap or body wash
  4. Small deodorant

**** Small treat (like one of those 'gift with purchase' lipsticks you got at Xmas but will never use!) optional.

Firefighter Kit

These will be delivered upcountry to brigades and staging posts and used by frontliners when they come off the fire fronts for a quick nap and a shower when water available. Please include all of the above items, plus (with or without Feminine sanitary products - but keep in mind, many CFA are female)

  1. Small shampoo
  2. Toothbrush & toothpaste
  3. Small soap or body wash
  4. Small deodorant
  5. Comb
  6. Tampons or sanitary napkins
  7. Hair elastics
  8. Eye drops (their vision suffers from grit and smoke etc)
  9. Clean face washer (water is limited & from experience we know firefighters want to scrape grime off their faces)
  10. Clean hand towel (at a pinch, they are enough to dry off body after a quick shower)
  11. Disposable razor
  12. Metal spoons and forks. (Firefighters have noted that they can't eat on the go without implements!!!)
  13. Small can of tuna (a small tuna can may be stored in a pocket and scoffed in the fire truck)
  14. Small chocolates or sweets must be in wrappers

You might like to include a personal thank you note to a firefighter in this pack.

Jacqueline has also asked if anyone is willing to donate Marquees such as the image below, it would be very much appreciated.
