Closing the Gap - Review of the 16 measures
Most Jobs Australia Members will have heard or read about the recent revisions to the ‘Closing the Gap’ strategy for Indigenous Australian people. The revisions were made after 2 years of consultation and more than a year in negotiations and discussions.
The targeted revisions as stand-alone statements have been widely accepted by the Indigenous Australian representatives including Aunty Pat Turner (from the Coalition of Peaks) who said it was “A huge step forward”.
Although, some observers have indicated that the consequences of these targets are yet to be fully considered.
Many people live in communities where there is no employment in the numbers represented, so the implications of this extremely important measure might include mobility and a desire to work and live away from traditional lands and family. These areas all need to be considered.
Jobs Australia has reviewed the 16 measures which can be found here.
