Jobs Australia members help young people transition successfully from education to employment through a range of Federal and State Government initiatives. This page focuses on the challenges faced by young people and the opportunities available to support them into work.
Young people have borne the brunt of rising unemployment since the Global Financial Crisis in 2008. After hitting an all time low of 7.6% in August 2008, the unemployment rate for young people aged 15-24 rose steadily and almost doubled when it peaked at 14.5% late in 2014.
The situation for teenagers is even worse, with the unemployment rate hitting 20.2% in January 2015, the highest rate in nearly 18 years. This rate is three times the overall unemployment rate of just over 6 %.
The Jobs Australia policy team works to support and represent our members to improve the lives of young people through employment.
