What insurance cover is there in place for unpaid work experience or on-the-job training?

If a client of a program is injured while involved in on-the-job- training or work experience arranged by a Jobs Australia member, most medical costs should be recovered under Medicare. If a client is permanently injured, the Personal Accident policy provides cover up to a maximum of $250,000. These benefits are paid irrespective of negligence.

Note: there is no cover under the Personal Accident policy for such expenses as physiotherapy and other medical expenses that Medicare does not cover.

If a client, volunteer or committee member causes damage to third party property or, as a result of an injury, is sued or sues a Jobs Australia member organisation, the Public Liability policy provides layers of cover of up to $20,000,000 where the Jobs Australia member is liable.

If the organisation providing the unpaid work experience or on-the-job training is negligent then it will be their liability policy that will respond in the event of injury, loss or damage. The Jobs Australia liability policy does not indemnify employers’ or other parties’ negligence.

How much does it cost to subscribe?

For subscribers to the CSIR Community Sector Blanket Cover, these fees are determined by our brokers at JLT.

Because of the excellent work undertaken to negotiate these policies on our behalf and our position in the market place, we are able to provide access to an excellent package at a very reasonable price.  Please contact Ross Mackay at Jobs Australia for further information.

For subscribers to the main Jobs Australia Community Sector Blanket Cover program, these fees are based on your organisation's outgoings.  A set rate per $1,000.00 of your expenditure is charged via a declaration to Jobs Australia every six months.  Again, please contact Ross Mackay at Jobs Australia for further information.

What activities/ programs are covered under the blanket insurance program?

Any community activity/program that provides benevolent relief (whether Commonwealth and State-Territory funded), or any enterprise and fee-for-service activity that is being operated to generate additional income to be applied to these activities, and provided that they are declared to Jobs Australia Limited in its annual declarations (provided payments of the fees to subscribe by the due dates is made), these activities will generally be covered.

Are the insurers that Jobs Australia uses to underwrite its Program, APRA approved?

Yes, the policies included in the Jobs Australia Blanket Cover Insurances Programs are underwritten by insurers authorised by virtue of determinations made by APRA as per the General Insurance Reform Act 2001.

Can Jobs Australia provide us with a comparison of our policies against those contained within their Program?

Jobs Australia can arrange with our broker (as someone familiar with our Program but independent so far as the result is concerned) a comparison of your existing policies compared with the Blanket Cover Insurance Program.

To complete a comparison we will require copies of your policies.  If you have the specific wording behind those insurances, our broker will be able to provide feedback that is a little more comprehensive.

An example of a comparison we did recently was for a volunteer organisation who subscribed to a similar group purchasing scheme with another National Peak Body.
